The Irish Gamelan Orchestra was established in 2013 by Mel Mercier as an ensemble dedicated to the collaborative performance of new music for gamelan. the IGO has collaborated with artists including Fiona Shaw, Iarla Ó Lionáird, Joseph O’Connor, Martin Hayes, Colin Dunne, Nick Roth, Kate Ellis, Duke Special and Julie Feeney in performances throughout Ireland, the UK and Java. In 2019 & 2022, the IGO collaborated with Gare St Lazare theatre company to stage Samuel Beckett's 'How It Is parts 1 & 2' in The Everyman Theatre Cork, and the Coronet Theatre London. The IGO released its debut CD The Three Forges on Diatribe Records in 2015.
